Although it is much less expensive to initially get hooked into the local electric company’s grid than it is to set up and hook into wind turbines, in the long run one saves money by utilizing the wind for one’s energy needs—while also becoming more independent. Not receiving an electric bill while enjoying the advantages of the modern electrically-driven lifestyle is a wondrous feeling.

Electric bills and fuel bills are rising steadily—but the cost of wind turbine energy is zero, and the cost of installing and hooking up a turbine is steadily coming down as demand rises and more commercial success is realized by various companies producing the turbines and researching technologies to make them ever more efficient. In addition, people are moving away from the traditional electric grids and the fossil fuels for personal reasons including desire for greater independence, the desire to live remotely or rurally without having to “go primitive”, political concerns such as fears of terrorist strikes on oil fields or power grids, or concerns about the environment. Again, this motivation to get away from the traditional energy sources is the same one that causes people to seek the power of the wind for their energy, giving more business opportunities to profit from wind turbine production and maintenance, which drives their costs down for the consumers. In nearly thirty states at the time of this writing, homeowners who remain on the grid but who still choose to use wind energy (or other alternative forms) are eligible for rebates or tax breaks from the state governments that end up paying for as much as 50% of their total “green” energy systems’ costs. In addition, there are 35 states at the time of this writing where these homeowners are allowed to sell their excess energy back to the power company under what are called “net metering laws”. The rates that they are being paid by the local power companies for this energy are standard retail rates—in other words, the homeowners are actually profiting from their own energy production.

Some federal lawmakers are pushing to get the federal government to mandate these tax breaks and other wind power incentives in all 50 states. Japan and Germany already have national incentive programs in place. However, “A lot of this is handled regionally by state law. There wouldn’t really be a role for the federal government,” the Energy Department’s Craig Stevens says. And as might be imagined, there are power companies who feel that it’s unfair that they should have to pay retail rates to private individuals. “We should [only have to] pay you the wholesale rate for … your electricity,” according to Bruce Bowen, Pacific Gas & Electric’s director of regulatory policy. However, the companies seem to be more worried about losing short term profits than about the benefits, especially in the long run, of the increased use of wind turbines or wind farms. Head of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies of California V. John White points out, “It’s quality power that strengthens the grid.”

Choose and Use Wind Power for Green Energy: Save natural resources and save money too!

In the midst of economic downturn, energy prices likewise skyrocketed and the blame is actually on the consumers for the prices they suffer. Unfortunately there are still a great number of consumers who do not know the importance of home wind power kits and the potential of alternative energy sources specifically wind power. Moreover, utilizing free energy like solar, wind and wave energies means greater benefits and protection for the environment as it is derived from abundant natural resources.

Residential Wind Power

How to use residential wind power

This particular wind power is a very simplistic task however getting information how to utilize it would be quite tedious and costly as well. Recently and luckily there are many home wind power guides available who could assist you through the process of installing and doing it yourself. Basically, the process would start with the purchase of necessary parts and equipment for the installation, then you can proceed to the installing part and connection to your household to make it function. Yet for the connection process, it is advisable to consult and seek professional help from qualified electricians since this would require special skills and knowledge of trained personnel.
Wind power is definitely 100% free but you would necessarily invest a good amount of money to install and store this kind of energy. Wind power kits used at home are generally costly and quite difficult to find.
One kind of wind power kit is renewable energy budget kits. In this economical kit you get materials for the generation of your electricity and other energy needs. There are six major parts included:

1. Turbine Rutland 503 – can produce up to 60 watt of energy for approximately 5 or 6 light bulbs in energy saving features. Since the power is stored in batteries, it can be conveniently used with other equipment that needs more power and energy.

2. Rigging – this is 1m steeling tubing in order to mount the turbine part where you deem suitable.

3. Cable – usually 10 meters long used to run and connect the turbine and regulator.

4. Regulator – an hrs503 regulator which is compatible with the turbine included.

5. Battery – an AGM 35 that is maintenance free provided in the kit.

6. Inverter – this Genius 150 watt converter changes the DC to AC current that would run residential appliances, which do not quickly deplete for longer use.

This kind of wind power kit comes with instructions that have substantial and useful information. You can have other options to use free energy not only for your own advantage but the environment as well.

Governor Patrick is pushing wind turbines hard in Massachusetts in a soon to be released state plan to increase the regions dependence on windpower. Currently we already have about 9 huge wind turbines. The wind power goal is to run 800,000 homes by 2020, where 90% of power coming from other sources. As you know, the Governor already layouted out a state solar power rebate plan which has been very successful. Governor Patrick as already proclaimed, “Now is the time to turn to wind power”.

Patrick’s proposal would put Massachusetts among the majority of states with some wind-power production. Texas is tops, with 6,300 megawatts of existing capacity spread over dozens of wind farms.
